Poets & Pets

Figured I’d end National Poetry month with a list of a few poets and their pets:

  • Edgar Allan Poe–parrot, bobolink, and a cat he was especially fond of.
  • Alfred, Lord Tennyson–had a snake while at Cambridge.
  • Lord Byron–had a tame bear while at Cambridge, a Newfoundland named Boatswain.
  • Robert Burns–collie named Thurlow.
  • Christina Rossetti–a large collection of cats and birds.
  • Dante Gabriel Rossetti–wombat, chamelion, peacock, mice, armadillo, racoon, woodchuck, and a zebu.
